Frequently asked questions
Basic oral hygiene instructions
The oral cavity is not a compartment isolated from the rest of the body, so it is important to maintain basic hygiene measures to prevent local and/or systemic diseases:
- Brush our teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes (morning and evening).
- Perform interdental hygiene at least once a day (at night).
- Perform tongue brushing at least twice a day (morning and evening).
- Change the manual toothbrush or electric toothbrush head every 3 months.
How to prolong the results of teeth whitening?
- The first thing to remember is that teeth whitening should be guided by a dentist, who will choose the product that best suits the patient’s needs, always taking into account the condition of the teeth and gums.
- Maintain good hygiene including brushing and flossing.
- Have professional hygiene performed at least once a year.
- Small annual touch-ups can be done with low-concentration whitening gels prescribed by the dentist. Each case is different.
Instructions to follow after a tooth extraction
- Keep the gauze in place for 30-40 minutes, applying slight compression to the extraction area. Once this time has elapsed, the gauze can be removed and no other gauze can be applied, or another gauze can be applied as instructed by the doctor.
- Swelling may occur after any dental extraction. To keep swelling to a minimum, it is recommended to apply an ice pack every 10-15 minutes for the first 2-3 hours, intermittently.
- During the day of the extraction, it is necessary to follow a liquid diet at room or cold temperature (hot foods are forbidden). From the second day onwards, the diet may be soft until it returns to normal. During the first few days, avoid chewing in the operated area and the consumption of spicy foods, citrus fruits and/or vinegars.
- DO NOT brush, rinse or spit on the day of the extraction as this may dislodge the clot from the wound and interrupt the normal healing process. From the following day onwards, you can brush your teeth normally, except for the extraction area where a topical gel indicated by the doctor will be applied.
- During the first 24 hours you may notice a little blood coming out of the wound, which is normal. If the amount is larger, fold a gauze pad, moisten it with Amchafibrin 500mg (tranexamic acid) and place it on the wound for 30 minutes. You can repeat this action as often as necessary. It is important not to rinse or spit.
- Try to sleep with your head slightly higher than the rest of your body for the first few nights.
- Avoid smoking for the first 7 days after the extraction and limit alcohol intake. The toxic components of tobacco irritate the tissues, which can promote bleeding and hinder proper healing.
- It is very important that you follow the medication regimen (doses and schedules) prescribed by your doctor.
- You will be scheduled for a check-up and removal of the stitch(s) in a week’s time.
We hope that the days following the extraction go normally. If this is not the case, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Discharge splint maintenance instructions
The best way to keep the discharge splint in good condition is to clean it every day after it has been used.
We recommend cleaning with liquid soap and using a different toothbrush than the one we use for our teeth.
At the same time, we can place the splint in a tank with water and disinfectant tablets at least once a week to ensure the best condition of our splint.
How to clean invisible orthodontic aligners?
They should be washed with liquid soap and a soft or medium bristle brush, other than the one used for daily dental hygiene.
